Welcome to Philander Smith College! We are excited to have you as a student. The Division of Student Affairs includes Athletics, Campus Security, Health Services, Integrated Counseling Center, Office of Religious Life, Office of Student Involvement and Leadership, Residential Life, and TRIO/Student Support Services. Our focus is to provide co-curricular services and activities that will help you be successful.  

 
 MISSION STATEMENT:
The mission of the Division of Student Affairs at Philander Smith College is to prepare generations of life-long learners through academic support, spiritual development, and cultural enrichment to engage in professional leadership and service.

VISION: To increase retention and graduation rates through tangible co-curricular endeavors.




What is available to you through our division?
Through the various departments, the Division of Student Affairs offers the following services:

     *      Academic advising if you are undecided about your major
     *      Career planning and placement services                                                              
     *      Personal counseling
     *      Letter sports (Women’s Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Basketball) 
     *      Intramural Sports (Flag and Power Puff Football, Co-ed Basketball and Co-ed Softball)
     *      School nurse for preventative and immediate health care (school physician is off-site)
     *      Tutoring services provided Monday – Friday (evening hours are available)  
     *      Residential programming
     *      Leadership training
     *      Weekly Chapel services
 
How can I get involved on campus?
While you come to college for your academic studies, research shows that students who are actively involved in co-curricular activities have better grades and higher graduation rates. Thus, we strongly encourage our students to get involved in various organizations, events/activities, and services offered. A few of these opportunities are listed below:
 
    *      Pathfinders Mentoring Program (provides a mentor will help to transition to college life)
      *      Student Leadership Development Program (strengthens your leadership skills)
      *      Student Government Association (offers you a visible campus leadership role)
      *      Panther Programming Union (student activities programming board)
      *      Pre-Alumni  Council (learn to be a great alumnus early)
      *      Residential Assistant (leadership opportunity that gets you a free dorm room---available 
                 after your first year)
      *     Miss Philander Smith College (reign as campus queen and official college ambassador) 
      *      Greek Life (minimum GPA and credit hour requirements)
