New Freshman

You are a First-Time Freshmen if you are a student without college credit or earned college credit prior to high school graduation through dual enrollment. Any First-Time Freshman student interested in admission to Philander Smith University must have graduated from an accredited high school, have successfully completed the General Education Development (GED) Test, or completed a state approved home school program.

Application for Admission

A completed Application for Admission is required. All information must be accurate to the best of your knowledge as misleading or false information may result in denial of admission to Philander Smith University.

What Else Do You Need?

Official High School Transcript

An official high school transcript must be submitted with the following information:

  • All course and grades
  • High School graduation date
  • Official School Seal and/or School Official’s Signature

General Education Diploma

If a GED was earned and completed, a passing rating on the GED for non-high school graduates.

Home Schooled Students

Home-schooled students must submit a final, official transcript signed by a school official, defined as the adult person who was primarily responsible for the education of the student. An official transcript must include:

  • The dates of attendance and terms of enrollment
  • Physical address and phone number of the school
  • A complete listing of all specific courses taken

Photocopies and faxed transcripts are not considered official.

Philander Smith University accepts transcripts sent electronically from your high school using one of the following approved systems:

  • Parchment
  • National Student Clearinghouse
  • Scribbles Software
  • Credentials Solutions

Test Scores

Official scores from the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or American College Testing (ACT) are for course placement purposes only. You can request your scores to be sent directly to Philander Smith University when you register for the test(s). After you have taken the test, you can still request scores by clicking the links provided below and following the instructions provided.

  • Request SAT Scores Philander Smith University’s four-digit code is 6578
  • Request ACT Scores Philander Smith University’s four-digit code is 0136

Additional Requirements 

Proof of Send a copy of your immunization record showing the complete dates of 2 MMRs (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella)

Philander Smith requires you to meet this requirement before you will be allowed to register for classes.
