Philander Smith University is pleased to announce that the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) has reaffirmed the University’s accreditation for a full 10 years. This decision follows a comprehensive evaluation process that included a review of the University’s assurance argument, federal compliance submission, and an on-site visit conducted March 17–18, 2025.
The 10-year reaffirmation—approved by the HLC at its June 30, 2025, meeting—recognizes the University’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence, institutional integrity, and student-centered outcomes.
As part of the process, Philander Smith University has also transitioned to the HLC’s Open Pathway, which supports long-term planning and continuous improvement. In alignment with this new pathway, the University has launched a Student Success initiative aimed at strengthening retention, graduation, and completion rates.
The institution remains dedicated to advancing educational equity and preparing scholars for lives of leadership, service, and impact—changing the world for the better.
