Philander Smith College is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeremy Carter as the new Associate Dean of Campus Culture and Religious Life. Mr. Carter, a dedicated and accomplished educator, brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to student development and engagement.
A proud alumnus of Philander Smith College, Jeremy Carter hails from Memphis, TN, and embodies the essence of a Black Male Educator. As a first-generation college student, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, with a minor in Black Family Studies. Throughout his time at the college, Mr. Carter was actively involved in various leadership roles, including President of the Student Government Association, Director of the Chosen Generation Gospel Choir, President of the Religious Life Council, and lead Resident Assistant. Additionally, he served as the Operations Manager for Housing, contributed to the Bless the Mic Steering Committee and Street Team, and is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., among other notable achievements.
Building on his undergraduate success, Mr. Carter pursued further studies at Miami University-Ohio, focusing on Student Affairs in Higher Education. He also attended Relay Graduate School for Education, specializing in Elementary Education. With a strong passion for student advocacy, Mr. Carter has accumulated a diverse range of experiences, including roles as a Housing Coordinator, Student Engagement and Leadership Director, Academic Advisor, and a dedicated Kindergarten and Fifth-grade classroom teacher.
In 2022, Jeremy Carter returned to his beloved alma mater as the Director of Housing and Residential Life. In this capacity, he effectively managed a team of 36 professionals and students, overseeing the housing arrangements for over 440 scholars. Mr. Carter’s impact on student lives extended beyond his administrative responsibilities, as he dedicated himself to teaching, coaching, and mentoring students.
Philander Smith College is thrilled to announce that, in June 2023, Mr. Jeremy Carter was appointed as the Associate Dean for Campus Culture and Religious Life. In this new role, he will continue to make significant strides in fostering a vibrant campus culture and promoting religious life on campus. Mr. Carter’s unwavering dedication to the institution and his genuine care for students and staff alike make him an invaluable asset to the Philander Smith College community.
