Philander Smith College is thrilled to announce significant enrollment growth for its esteemed S.T.A.R.T. Summer Bridge Program. With over 160 students participating in the six-week academic and social enrichment program, the College is experiencing a remarkable rebound from the challenges posed by the COVID pandemic, reaffirming its commitment to providing exceptional educational and co-curricular opportunities.
The Philander Smith College S.T.A.R.T. Summer Bridge Program is a transformative six-week academic enrichment and leadership development initiative, which offers first-time freshmen a seamless transitional experience equipping them with a robust foundation for their college careers. By residing on campus and engaging in rigorous coursework, participants have the opportunity to potentially earn up to 12 credit hours. In addition to receiving academic credit, selected students of the program were admitted to the second cohort of the College’s recently created Certified Nursing Program (CNA). These students will be dually enrolled in both programs and will receive the CNA credential.
“We are proud to witness such a strong resurgence in the enrollment numbers for our S.T.A.R.T. Summer Bridge Program,” said Dr. Gregory A. Hudson, Interim Executive Vice President, and Chief Operating Officer of Philander Smith College. “The program serves as a vital academic and social enrichment opportunity for our incoming freshmen–ensuring they are well-prepared for their higher education journey at PSC. Our record-breaking enrollment is a testament to the resilience of these amazing scholars and the steadfast dedication of our college community.”
This notable achievement in enrollment reaffirms Philander Smith College’s commitment to providing educational opportunities that will continue to move the College forward.
