The Panther Academic Lab is now open!

On February 14th, 2024, the Panther Academic Lab celebrated its Grand Opening!

The Panther Academic Lab (PAL) is an academic success center for the students at Philander Smith University that houses the writing lab, math lab, and an open computer lab. The lab is located in Titus 101 and provides a dedicated space for 15 peer tutors to assist students in the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Math Foundations, College Math, College Algebra, Calculus I, Computer Science, Reading, College English, and Composition I & II. English Instructor Ms. Subrinia Bogan is the Writing Lab supervisor, and Ms. Ashley Embry, Interim Chair of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Engineering, is the Math Lab supervisor. Dr. Laza Razafimanjato, Executive Director of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Strategy, and Innovation, is the Peer Tutor Supervisor. Senior Psychology major Michael Prescott is the Lead Tutor.

With support from Interim President Cynthia A. Bond Hopson, Mrs. Anita Hatley, The PSU Retention and Completion Committee, and committed faculty and staff, the Panther Academic Lab is now a reality! Walk-ins are welcomed. Each tutoring session is 30 minutes to an hour and half in length. If more in-depth tutoring is needed for a longer period of time, students can schedule one-on-one appointments with a tutor in their area of need. The Panther Academic Lab is open Monday through Friday from 9:00am-6:30 pm.
