Homecoming 2025: Safety and Security Guidelines

Philander Smith University is committed to ensuring a secure and enjoyable Homecoming experience for students, alumni, and guests. To help us maintain a safe campus environment, please review and follow these important safety guidelines.

Campus Access & Security

  • A valid student ID is required for admission to all student-sponsored Homecoming events. Students who do not present an ID at the entrance will not be allowed to enter.
  • Guests attending the Coronation will be required to check in with security officers at the main gate before entering campus.
  • The Philander Smith University Campus Safety and Security Department, in collaboration with the Little Rock Police Department, will have an enhanced presence throughout the week to support a safe and orderly atmosphere.

Prohibited Items
For the protection and comfort of all attendees, the following items are not permitted at Homecoming events or on University grounds:

  • Any form of weapon, including firearms, knives, pepper spray, tasers, or other sharp or defensive objects.
  • Bags that do not meet Clear Bag Policy requirements. (Refer to the posted policy for approved sizes.)
  • Two-way radios or walkie-talkies.
  • Laser pointers or handheld flashlights.
  • Illegal drugs or controlled substances. (Prescription medications are allowed if they are in the original container and match the attendee’s ID.)
  • Alcoholic beverages, outside drinks, or tumblers.
  • Fireworks, projectiles, or inflatable items such as balloons, beach balls, or Frisbees.
  • Signs, flags, or apparel displaying offensive language or imagery.
  • Unauthorized handouts, flyers, or promotional materials.
  • Fire-starting devices, including lighters or matches.
  • Cans, bottles, boxed liquids, aerosols, or other containers made of glass, metal, or insulated materials.
  • Pets (except certified service animals).
  • Masks or face coverings unrelated to approved health protocols.
  • Scooters, skateboards, or similar wheeled devices.
  • Attendees without proper attire (shoes, shirts, and pants/shorts are required).
  • Any other items restricted by event or venue management.

Additional Notes
Items confiscated during security screenings will be discarded and not returned.

All attendees are expected to comply with University policies and the directions of Campus Safety and Security personnel. Disruptive conduct, threats, or any actions that endanger the safety or well-being of others will not be tolerated. Individuals engaging in unlawful or disorderly behavior may be subject to removal, arrest, and prosecution.
