Students majoring in Computer Science have the option to take courses in the Health Information Technology (HIT) concentration to be prepared to serve in roles as health information technology professionals. Students also may focus on the Cyber security concentration. Students will learn many technical aspects of processing and maintaining health information systems and software. Also, The Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science has an articulation agreement with the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville (UARK) for the completion of a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering through the 3/2 Program. Students wishing to complete an engineering degree may do so by choosing a science degree (Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science and Mathematics) at Philander Smith University (PSU) and one of the engineering degrees (listed above) from UARK. By spending three years (3) at PSU and two years (2) at UARK, the student may complete two degrees in five years. These years need not be contiguous. Based upon the student’s academic ability and the degree program requirements, some programs may take longer than five years to complete. Although the student may choose any science degree, it is recommended (for five-year completion) that the student major in Mathematics at PSC. For specific admission requirements, curricula, and additional information, students should contact the department chair for Applied Mathematics and Computer Science.
