Director of Human Resources
The Director of Human Resources serves as the strategic and operational leader for all human resource functions at Philander Smith University. This position is responsible for planning, developing, and directing HR policies and programs that align with the institution’s mission, vision, and values. The Director will oversee areas including employee relations, talent acquisition, classification and compensation, benefits administration, compliance, performance management, training and development, and HR information systems.
Maintenance Technician I
The Maintenance Technician I (Groundskeeper) performs various manual duties in maintaining and developing campus grounds, drives, walkways, parking areas, and designated off-campus properties. This position ensures the University’s outdoor spaces are safe, attractive, and well-maintained, supporting a welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Maintenance Technician II
The Maintenance Technician II performs various manual duties in maintaining and developing campus grounds, and facilities and assist higher classified technical tasks with preventative maintenance schedule and specific projects.
Custodian Technician
The Custodian Technician is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of campus buildings, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Physical Plant Director
The Director of the Physical Plant is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the university's buildings and infrastructure, with the primary responsibilities being the university's residential living facilities and general supervision, providing direction for maintenance supervision with field participation. The Physical Plant Director will oversee systems and a preventative maintenance schedule.
Vice President for Fiscal Affairs / Chief Financial Officer
The Vice President for Fiscal Affairs (VPFA) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) reports to the President and oversees all financial operations of the University. This role develops strategic goals, policies, and plans for the Division of Fiscal Affairs, ensuring sound financial management, compliance, and alignment with the University’s mission and long-term objectives.
Marketing and Communications Coordinator
The Office of Institutional Advancement at Philander Smith University seeks a creative and detail-oriented Marketing and Communication Coordinator. This position supports the development and implementation of marketing and communication strategies that advance the university’s mission, strengthen its brand, and engage key audiences, including prospective students, alums, donors, and community partners.
Assistant Professor of Nursing
Philander Smith University is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Assistant Professor to join our academic team. The Assistant Professor of Nursing is responsible for teaching courses in all Nursing programs. This role requires a commitment to excellence in teaching, student engagement, and service to the university community.
Vice President for Institutional Advancement
The Vice President for Institutional Advancement is responsible for leading a cohesive and effective division that encompasses development, alumni affairs, sponsored programs, public affairs, marketing and communications, and special events. This senior administrator ensures a coordinated approach to fundraising and public relations across the University, supporting its strategic priorities. The Vice President reports directly to the President and serves as a member of the Executive Cabinet.

Director of Residential Life and Housing
The Director of Residential Life and Housing is a full-time, 12-month live-in professional position reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management & Student Experience. The Director provides leadership and oversight of a comprehensive residential life program that promotes student engagement, academic success, and personal development. This position is responsible for the daily management and strategic direction of all residence life operations, including staff supervision, housing assignments, facilities coordination, student conduct, and community programming for approximately 600 residential students.
