Congratulations! Welcome to the 2019 S.T.A.R.T. Summer Bridge Program at Philander Smith College. We are excited that you have chosen such a prestigious college to gain a higher education and we could not be more thrilled to have you join our family.
In preparation for your arrival on June 14, 2019 we ask that you complete the following checklist (in order). Please be sure to keep a copy of all documents that you complete and bring those copies with you. Read the instructions carefully as some documents require you to print and email them back to a particular office on our campus.

1.confirm your intent to attend start
Use the button below and complete the brief RSVP form to confirm your intent to attend the 2019 START Summer bridge program.
2. create your fsa id
Follow the link below to create your Federal Student Aid ID. The FSA ID is the username and password you use on federal student aid websites such as fafsa.gov and StudentLoans.gov, and on the myStudentAid mobile app.
3. complete fafsa 2018-2019 & 2019-2020
Complete BOTH the 2018-2019 (using 2016 tax information) AND 2019-2020 (using 2017 tax information) Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®).
If you are selected for verification, please click the button below to locate the necessary forms on the website and verify your eligibility for federal financial aid.
5. complete ferpa form
Download and complete the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act form and print and bring with you to submit during onsite check-in. Download FERPA Form
6. student inventory form
Complete the student inventory form using the button below. This information will help us be better prepared in creating an engaging learning experience for each attendee.
7. START Housing information
Download this START Housing Newsletter to learn all tips and guidelines for preparing for on campus living. Please not that students should bring a variety of clothes for various events including attire for Weekly Chapel services as well as business casual attire for professional events.
APPLYING FOR FINANCIAL AID
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) is available now. You have two options for completing your 2019-2020 FAFSA®.
FAFSA on the Web (FOTW) https://www.fafsa.gov
You will need the following information to complete your FAFSA®:
Your FSA ID to sign electronically
Your Social Security Number
Your 2017 federal income tax returns, W-2s, and other records of money earned. (Note: You may be able to transfer your federal tax return information into your FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.)
Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable)
Records of untaxed income (if applicable)
If you are a dependent student for financial aid purposes, then you will also need most of the above information for your parent(s).
If you have already submitted your 2019-2020 FAFSA, please disregard this message.
8. START Deposit
The deposit will be $50 and can be paid by calling the Business Office or by filling out the button below. Upon completion of the program, this deposit will be applied towards their fall 2019 tuition and fees.
Completing all of the provided material PRIOR TO ARRIVAL will ensure a smoother check-in process when you arrive on campus on June 14, 2019.
