Second Round of CARES Act Relief Available to Students

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act passed by Congress in the Spring of 2020 contained provisions for the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) to assist institutions with providing support to students amid the COVID-19 crisis.

In response, Philander Smith College created the CARES Act Student Emergency Aid Grant Program.

The College disbursed its first round of student emergency aid in the Spring, and now, a second round is available. The 2020 Fall CARES Act grant is eligible to returning students (currently enrolled for Fall 2020). These scholars had to have been enrolled as of March 13, 2020 of the previous Spring 2020 Semester.

The HEERF distributions will be allotted as follows:

$650: 12 hours or more

$490: 9-11 hours

$320: 6-8 hours

$160: 3-5 hours

There is no application process for these funds. All students who qualify will receive funds via check.  Checks are currently available for pick-up in the Business Office.  If you would like your check mailed, please complete this short address verification.

The College understands the severe disruption in our lives caused by the pandemic. We are hopeful that this second disbursement will help our returning students further close the gap as we continue to navigate through these difficult times.
