Tom Joyner Foundation selects June for PSC

The Tom Joyner Foundation recently announced that Philander Smith College will be its June 2010 'School of the Month.'
The foundation, formed by the nationally syndicated radio personality, is a major driving force in raising money for historically Black colleges. Its primary mission is to strengthen these institutions' fundraising efforts to help keep students enrolled in HBCUs.

'Fly Jock' to keynote Commencement
On the heels of news that Philander Smith is a 2010 Tom Joyner Foundation 'School of the Month,' the College revealed that the popular radio personality will be the 2010 commencement speaker.
Tom Joyner will bring his own brand of 'pomp and circumstance' to this year's graduation at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 2 at the Statehouse Convention Center in downtown Little Rock. Joyner as the keynote speaker is a terrific lead-in for June when the institution is highlighted as the 'School of the Month' on the fly jock's popular nationally-syndicated radio morning show.

Reuniting with History: Reunion Weekend 2010
Calling all PSC alumni: Make plans now to attend the second annual Alumni Reunion Weekend!
The reunion will take place in Little Rock April 29-May 2 in conjunction with the 54th National Alumni Association Convention. If you or anyone you know is a member of the classes of '60, '65, '70, '75, '80, '85, '90, '00 or '05, you'll definitely want to attend!

MOVING FORWARD WITH SOCIAL JUSTICE
As Philander Smith College moves forward with its institution-wide focus on social justice, there continues to be a roll-out of new programs and tools to enhance the initiative.
Philander Smith College president Dr. Walter Kimbrough recently sought out individuals -- activists, academics, executives -- that could help fully develop what has potential to be a unique program in all of higher education, forming the Justice Project Advisory Board to help advance the institution's focus on social justice.

Technology gets a major boost
In November, Senate approval of the Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill, 2010, cleared the way for a first-time $750,000 appropriation for Philander Smith College that will drastically benefit technology and security at the school.
President Kimbrough was elated over the news. "This is huge...we have really worked to diversify support for the College..."

Hardings pledge $100,000
Investment banking executive Rush Harding and his wife Linda have pledged a $100,000 gift to Philander Smith College. The five-year pledge will support the Renaissance 100 scholarship fund.
Rush Harding, chief executive officer of Crews and Associates in Little Rock, was most recently honorary chairman of the President's Luncheon fundraiser at Philander Smith in September.
