SPARK

Student Support Services (SPARK) is a Title IV federally-funded program. The program provides supportive services to low income, first generation and/or disabled College students, to enhance their potential for successfully completing the educational program in which they are enrolled, and to facilitate their transition to the next level of higher education or the pursuit of a career.

To receive assistance, students must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a program of post-secondary education, and have an assessed need by the program staff and an established need for academic assistance. The two major components of the program are tutoring and counseling. The program provides students with:

  • Tutorial Services
  • Academic, personal or financial counseling
  • Exposure to cultural events
  • Assistance in obtaining student financial aid
  • Workshops and seminars in reading, writing and study skills
  • Corporate/Campus Work-Study Program
  • Graduate School tours
  • Assistance in securing admission and financial assistance for enrollment in graduate and professional programs

All participants are required to remain in College until graduation and show progress in their major which is appropriate to their potential. They are also expected to be frugal, and to meet financial obligations.

It is the responsibility of the staff to provide those services which are unique to individual growth and maximum progress. The staff must also provide continuous monitoring for all students from admission into the program up to three years after graduation.
